The history of our destination is closely linked to that of wine!
The prosperity of Languedoc’s wine industry, with the canal playing a key role in this prosperity:
the transport of brandies and, later, wine. Some châteaux and estates have retained their winegrowing vocation, producing quality wines that are exported all over the world , while others have developed other activities: luxury hotels, restaurants, museums…
Our region is characterized by the predominant cultivation of vines, which shape its landscapes and color them through the seasons, from the Canal du Midi to Saint-Chinian. An exceptional vineyard and terroir at the heart of three major appellations, as well as passionate people and time-honoured traditions.
On the wine route… If you enjoy hiking, follow the Hérault Oeno Rando trails (certified by the FFRP) to explore the paths, the local terroir, the landscapes and the magnificent views through the vineyards for an extraordinary sensory experience. There are 18 trails available throughout the department. Departing from Saint-Chinian, the “Notre Dame de Nazaret” oeno-hike.

Saint-Chinian’s highly complex geology is reflected in the vineyards, giving specific characteristics to the different cuvées.

Your “Vignobles et Découverte” campsite will provide you with all the information you need to plan a trip to the heart of the Saint Chinian vineyards.
