The history of our destination is closely linked to that of wine!
Languedoc’s wine prosperity, the canal a major player in this prosperity:
transporting brandies, then wine. Some châteaux and estates have retained their winegrowing vocation, producing quality wines that are exported all over the world , while others have developed other activities: luxury hotels, restaurants, museums…
Our region is characterized by the predominant cultivation of vines, which shape its landscapes and color them through the seasons, from the Canal du Midi to Saint-Chinian. An exceptional vineyard and terroir at the heart of 3 major appellations, but also passionate people and traditions.
On the wine trail… If you like hiking, follow the Oeno Rando de l’Hérault, (certified by the FFRP) to discover trails, terroir, landscapes and magnificent panoramas through the vineyards for an extraordinary sensory experience. There are 18 circuits throughout the département. Departing from Saint-Chinian, the “Notre Dame de Nazaret” oeno-hike.
